XPE CORE Myofascial Therapy Certification

I just returned home from Baca Raton, FL.  I have been looking for a sports massage class for awhile now and boy did I find it!  It was such a great experience!  I worked with professional athletes, had an amazing teacher, and was in class with some great massage therapists.  I can't wait to get back to work and share what I learned with my clients.

About the class...

Our mornings were spent in class.  We learned new techniques from the amazing George Kousaleos.  Then we would pack up the tables and head over to XPE Sports.  We set up our 9 tables and would wait for the athletes to finish up their training and get on the table.  We worked with lots of athletes from NFL, NHL, MMA, tennis, as well as retired athletes that just wanted some time on the table.  I mean who can pass up a free massage?  I had a few professional athletes on my table and it felt great to be a part of their recovery.

Part of the fun of being at XPE was watching the athletes train.  Agility and speed training as well as some sport specific movements are just fun to watch.  So in any down time, I just sat and watched the athletes do their thing.  Tony Villani (the owner and trainer of XPE) was amazing. Not just telling his athletes what to do, but doing the workout alongside the NFL players.  He is quick and very creative with all of their drills.

The afternoons we were back in the classroom for more learning.  We traded work with our fellow classmates and got to experience the work.  I have to say it was always a treat to be the one on the table!  Again.....free massage!

Our evenings were open for us to do what we wanted.  I made it to CrossFit twice.  My intention was to go 4 days, but after hanging out with my classmates, I wanted to spend the nights with them as well.  We went to the beach, we hung out in the hotel, and we even made it out to a movie.  It was great to spend time with other massage therapists!

New to me...

Since my first day of massage school, I have been affecting fascia.  I have been working with the intention of warming, stretching, and improving the health of the fascia.  The big thing I see now is the benefit to working with the fascia of the entire body in a single session.  Having a method of working on this connective tissue in a way that increases ease of movement can be beneficial to everybody.  We learned how to increase openness through the torso which can increase rotation and decrease stiffness and can even help increase space for inhalation.  I learned new ways to help with hips, shoulders, neck, head, face, feet, glutes, pecs, sub scap, and some great psoas work. I look forward to incorporating what I learned into sessions, as well as doing sessions that are all structural bodywork.
